Most early video games, such as Pong in 1972, featured multiplayer modes. This was likely due to expectations from analog games, which were almost always played in person with friends and family. Early multiplayer modes were often turn-based, co-op arcade games—when one player died, another would take over or continue until all lives were extinguis
On the other side is Team Octalysis, a team that has struggled throughout the season. They did place 3rd at the HGC – Phase 1 NA Pro League this year, but with Team Dignitas as its first opponent, I don’t see them staying on the upper bracket for l
These special abilities aren’t just reserved for enemies either, the creatures controlled by the player each have their own skills as well. This makes the game less about matching any three factions of a similar color, rather, setting up combinations to attack with the most appropriate faction. Because each creature under your control has different strengths and attack patterns, Legend of Solgard never really asks players to mindlessly rearrange factions, rather, create a stringent attack plan and stick with
_ Heroes of the Storm _ , on the other hand, has a colossal _ thirteen _ maps, each meticulously balanced to give each team a fair chance at victory. Each map has its own variations in terms of size, lane separation, and jungle encampments (called mercenary camps in _ HotS _ ) that all feel very different, making each game fresh and excit
Besides learning where these places are, you should also learn what they mean for the team and you and your champion. Certain champions are better in the lanes, while others may seem unorthodox. but can be great if played by great players. Junglers will often call to their allies or have their allies ask for the Red or Blue buffs to help their lane or engagements with their opponents. You should read the buffs and understand if they will help your character before asking for
Besides learning your own champion, you can also see how other champions are played, as well as learning maps, items, cooldowns and other player tactics. While you don’t necessarily need to take notes, watching other people play can give you amazing insight into your enemies and own teammates. If you’re not a fan of watching other people play, you can instead read up on the pro team’s style of training and warmups to improve your
Each match in the regular season is the best of 5 games. Essentially, the first team to win three games wins the match. Game W-L is indicative of a team’s game record, which explains the larger numbers. G +/- is the number of wins minus the number of losses. This will produce a positive or negative number depending on the team’s Game
Legend of Solgard broadened my definition of what a mobile game could be; it took my expectations of free-to-play games and provided something much grander. While imperfect and likely inaccessible to the most casual of players, Legend of Solgard is an exciting step forward for not only mid-core titles but mobile titles as a wh
Combining characters across all of Blizzard’s properties made Storm of Heroes feel like the Smash Bros. of MMO games. It’s a clever move on their part and one that I felt drew fans of yesteryear back to the good fight. Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo and more combine heroes and villains to bring a full-on war between factions. The amazing promotional trailers made wanting to play Storm of Heroes even more enticing. Even if you’re terrible at MMO games, you can still enjoy the sights and sounds of nostalgia in a new world.
2K’s multiplayer online-only Evolve is under fire for this very reason. The game already has several DLCs and a deluxe edition available on top of its $60 price tag. Some critics claim this is equivalent to Evolve being a free-to-play game with microtransactions. Others, who support Evolve ‘s unique 4v1 approach to multiplayer and gorgeous graphics, hope that paying more money upfront will benefit and support future work. Adding more opportunities for players to pay more for games—through DLC and custom items—is a strategy that has earned developers more money thus far, so it’s unlikely to end anytime s
I saved the best for last on this list. While many folks pointed out Nintendo’s lack of original titles, Splatoon made a splatastic debut and made up for the last few decades. The cute, colorful, simple online shooter is a friendly way to introduce players to the genre. Clever weapon designs and fresh gear to wear makes Splatoon a uniquely designed game. It’s not serious or violent like many others, which appeals to players of all ages. Friends, parents, kids and squids can all enjoy this MOBA game skins together and not have to yell or scream about campers. Inking the entire level and fending off the other team is a big task, but Nintendo made it enjoyable. Plus, you might run into a Squid Party and those are always fun to mess with. Splatoon is my choice for best game of 2015.
