The Importance of Weighted Keys
The number of keys isn’t the only factor that matters when learning classical piano. The texture of the keyboard is equally important.
Acoustic piano keys have resistance because of the mechanical hammer system used to strike the strings. Digital pianos try to reproduce this feeling with weighted or hammer-motion keys.
Many cheap 61-key keyboards have lightweight or unweighted keys. These can still make it easier to learn notes, chords, and primary coordination, but they don’t totally put together your fingers for the feel of a traditional piano.
