What was possible for open-world RPGs in 2004 versus what can be achieved now is drastically different. There are some exceptions, Morrowind managed to bring a well-realized open world to the Xbox, but Fable, visually, was a far superior game, obviously leading to restrictions in other areas. The core elements of RPGs have remained the same, but morality systems are an exception. For the past few decades, what gamers want out of a morality system has shifted dramatically, and with it, the way that gamers think about a narrative as a wh
Although its current window of release is unknown, Techland’s Dying Light 2 is one of the bigger games known about so far. It was delayed from its spring 2020 window, instead likely releasing sometime this fall. And when it does, it has been confirmed to be a cross-gen release on PS5 and Xbox Series
These spectacular showcases will be excellent outlets for both major console manufacturers to sell their upcoming new hardware, with Microsoft and Sony likely to announce tons of new games, reveal some stunning next-generation gameplay , and unveil some groundbreaking new entries in their most iconic franchises. For many, the latter of these prospects is without question the most exciting, especially as new consoles mean more expansive ways of tackling some of gaming’s most important
Considering that Xbox currently can’t boast many big-name exclusives that really sell what its next-generation venture is all about, it makes sense for the company to go all out on Fable 4 and show it before the launch of its newest console. That’s not to say the game should be rushed to be a launch title for the Series X; nobody wants the game to not reach its potential purely for the sake of creating hype for the Serie
Perhaps the most unique upcoming horror game, Monstrum 2, is a 4v1 multiplayer horror game where players must survive in a procedurally generated labyrinth set in a decaying sea fortress. As a direct sequel to Team Junfish’s 2015’s rogue-lite Monstrum , four players take on the role of survivors and will need to scavenge for supplies and find hidden access routes to important equipment, all while trying to survive from a terrifying lab experiment gone wrong. Think Predator: Hunting Grounds or Evolve but in a procedurally generated environment where the puzzles are always chang
When it comes to local co-op, it’s hard to beat Halo: The Master Chief Collection . Once players manage to get this massive game downloaded, they can play through the first four Halo games, plus Reach and ODST , entirely in split-screen co-op. Few games are as iconic as the Halo series, and while there are certain aspects of Halo 1 ‘s campaign that haven’t aged all that well, the games are still some of the absolute best first-person shooters on the mar
Nintendo is hosting a Pokemon Sword and Shield Nintendo Direct on June 5 , but the games will also be featured as part of the E3 2019 Nintendo Direct presentation. Whether it happens at the Pokemon Sword and Shield Nintendo Direct on June 5 or at E3 itself, we expect fans to get their first look at the starter evolutions as well as the games’ legendary Poke
One of the big selling points for the Xbox Adventure Game DLC Pass service is the fact that it has all of Microsoft’s first-party games, and this includes the entire Gears of War franchise. Every Gears of War game offers local co-op for the campaign, and Gears of War 2 onward also features Horde Mode as well. Players can play through the entire Gears of War saga from the beginning on Xbox Game Pass, all the way up to the most recent main series game, Gears 5 . The games have all aged well for the most part, offering players intense, action-packed campaigns that are a blast to play through in local co
Meanwhile, Microsoft can’t boast the same number of significant system sellers. Halo: Infinite is undeniably a massive draw, but it’s far from something entirely new for the franchise, especially with Microsoft continuing to pump out fairly frequent Halo titles over the past decade. Naturally, Xbox could provide followups to titles like Crackdown 3, Sea of Thieves, and Recore, but very few of these games managed to impress players or build giant fanbases when they launched during the Xbox One’s life cy
Head of Xbox Phil Spencer first teased the next-gen Xbox at E3 2018, and so it stands to reason that a more substantial look at the console could come at Microsoft’s E3 2019 press conference on June 9. If Microsoft does talk about the next-gen Xbox , it’s a safe bet that we will learn about the new console’s specs, and we may even get an official name for it as well. However, anyone hoping to see an actual physical console is probably a bit too optimistic, as something like that won’t be finalized until closer to launch, which many analysts predict will be November 2
Capcom has made a reputation for announcing big new games at E3, typically during Sony or Microsoft’s press conferences. Since Sony is skipping E3 2019, it’s likely that Capcom’s next big game will be showcased at Microsoft’s E3 2019 press conference, but the question remains what that game may be. Leaks from somewhat legitimate sources have claimed that Capcom is making a Resident Evil 3 remake , and if it’s aiming for a January 2020 release as the rumors have suggested, then an E3 2019 debut for the game seems lik
